Public transport “on demand” to be tested by Urban ICT Arena

How will ridesharing vehicles work in conjunction with public transport? During 2020, connected vehicles will be tested in Kista by Urban ICT Arena, Keolis and Ericsson. During the trial period, users will be able to book a ridesharing vehicle in an app, free of charge.

In 2018, an autonomous bus on public roads was tested in Kista – a first for Scandinavia. Now it is time for the next big mobility project in Kista, this time with ridesharing and connectivity in mind.

During 2020, Urban ICT Arena, Keolis and Ericsson will launch the project DELTA. Several vehicles will be used in the project, taking riders from door to door within Kista.

The idea is that the vehicles should complement the existing public transport and connect travellers with existing transit hubs and act as a “last mile” transport service. During the trial, people’s behaviour and attitudes will be studied. During the initial trials, regular vehicles will be used, but the lessons learned from the project will be crucial for future tests with automated and self-driving vehicles. The vehicles will also be used to test technologies such as localization and monitoring.

The project is planned to launch in March 2020 and continue throughout the year. Read more about the project here.
